Our history

About us: our philosophy
We are a family-run company where a passion for paper meets industrial precision. We specialise in the production of tissue paper sheets for packaging applications, providing tailored solutions designed to protect and enhance your products.
Short supply chain and complete quality control
Every stage of production takes place within our own facility, where we oversee the entire process—from the careful selection of raw materials to the packaging of the finished batch. This direct and comprehensive control enables us to deliver three key advantages for your business:
- Consistent quality: high standards maintained over time.
- Production flexibility: the ability to meet specific and customised requirements.
- Fast response times: direct communication with no intermediaries.
Your business partner, not just a supplier
Every day we work alongside companies and converters that consider tissue paper an essential component of their packaging and product protection processes. For us, selling paper is first and foremost about building long-lasting relationships based on trust. We stand out for our reliability, responsiveness and in-depth understanding of the real challenges and requirements of your industry.
We look to the future with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Our production is based exclusively on recycled raw materials and takes place in an area where the relationship with water and natural resources has always been at the heart of our manufacturing heritage. Choosing our tissue paper means choosing packaging that respects the environment.
The origins of the company
Our mill was established in the second half of the 19th century on the banks of the Lima stream, in the province of Lucca. From the very beginning, the facility harnessed the power of water both for production and energy generation through water channels that are still preserved today, as well as a historic hydroelectric power plant that enabled the company to remain energy independent for many years.
Over time, the factory went through several production phases, from chemicals to yarn manufacturing, until it was dismantled during the Second World War. After the war, it was acquired by Cartonpresspan SpA, which began producing pressed cardboard, also used to manufacture the iconic suitcases carried by Italian emigrants.
The turning point came in the early 1960s, when the company was acquired by the Stefani family, who continue to own and manage it today. The business was initially led by Leonildo Stefani, then by his son Bernardo Stefani and his wife Laura, before passing to his grandson, also named Leonildo Stefani. He drove the company's development through plant expansions, technological modernisation and the opening of new markets.

Cartiera Val di Lima today
Today, Cartiera Val di Lima is the result of the commitment of a team of 15 people who work every day to carry on the family tradition. Daniela, Leonildo's wife, and their son Ronnie are an integral part of this journey, working closely with the entire team to ensure business continuity while providing high-quality solutions for the packaging industry.
Following the industrial transformations of the last century, the company embarked on a significant expansion programme in the 1990s, bringing our tissue paper beyond the Italian market. Today we successfully export throughout Europe, particularly to Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Romania and Hungary, as well as to selected non-European markets.
What has changed, what has remained the same
Over time, our machinery, technologies and target markets have evolved. What has never changed is the way we work.
Our strong connection to the local area, our commitment to in-house production and our decision to use recycled raw materials continue to guide our everyday choices.
From the historic camoscina paper - made from recycled cardboard waste and used across a wide range of packaging applications - our production has evolved into today's tissue paper lines dedicated to industrial and commercial packaging.
Today, we manufacture different types of tissue paper designed for various applications, including:
- Economical tissue paper
- Standard tissue paper
- Extra tissue paper
- Avana Light tissue paper
- Avana Strong tissue paper
- Black tissue paper
Our production continues to evolve over time while remaining true to the same principle that has guided us for generations: doing our work properly, with care for quality, people and the local area where we operate.
